Gong/sound baths can help you refresh, restore, and renew yourself.

They can help you sleep better, problem solve, and access your creativity more easily.

Most folks find them extremely relaxing and restful!

What is a Gong/Sound Bath?

The instruments are set up in the middle of the room (I mainly use large gongs and add in rainstick, ocean drum, Himalayan metal bowls, shruti box, chimes and voice).

When you participate, you wear comfy clothes, and use a cushy mat (though some prefer a chair), a pillow, and a blanket. You’ll set up in your spot around the instruments.

After some gentle movement, you’ll lay down. I verbally guide you in some muscle and breath relaxation, then move to the instruments to “bathe” you in sound for about 45 minutes. (Note- it’s called a gong/sound “bath”, but there’s no water involved!)

How do Gong/Sound Baths contribute to overall health?

In short, they help us to relax. Our modern way of living is very busy, for both our bodies and our minds. When we lie down for a gong/sound bath we immediately offer rest to our bodies; when the sound begins, this also invites our minds to rest. Gong vibrations are strong, so we also feel the sound that we are hearing, which brings our awareness into our body. Studies have shown that gong/sound baths shift brainwaves from beta to alpha, theta, and delta waves- which invites our bodies into a more regenerative state.

Our lifestyles tend to have us operating mainly with the sympathetic nervous system stimulated. Because of this, it is very important to have practices that allow us to activate our parasympathetic nervous systems. Gong/Sound Baths can do that.

Anecdotal evidence certainly also points to easing of physical injury and disease during gong/sound baths. We are taught that we are all vibrating at a molecular level. Since the gongs produce so many different tones, and our bodies are about 60% water (hence good conductors of sound), gong sound stimulates many resonant frequencies in different parts of our body. Having a gong/sound bath is a little like having a massage at a cellular level! Studies are also being done on how sound can help with pain management.

However, even if the only thing that happens for folks is a general relaxation of the body and mind—that is a good step in the direction of improved health and wellbeing…

Who is Jennifer Bell? What is Ottawa Sound Therapy?

Jennifer offers treatments at her in-home studio for individuals and groups of 2 and 3. She also works outside of her studio, offering public group treatments and private sessions for small and large groups. She has worked at corporate/professional wellbeing days from the Château Laurier to community centres, with physicians on retreat, and at various fundraisers. She trained as a Sound Therapist at the College of Sound Healing in the U.K. where she is still a member. She worked as a Sound Therapist in the U.K. and then moved back to Ontario and established a private practice here (Ottawa Sound Therapy). In her treatments, Jennifer uses instruments she has gathered through the years, along with her voice. She aims to create space for people to move forward in their journey to better health – whether at the physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual level.

“I have nothing to wear.”

Spring is the perfect time to dig into your wardrobe. In this spring styling workshop in Ottawa, we’ll look at the winter items you didn’t end up wearing and learn simple styling techniques to help you feel inspired by the clothes already hanging in your closet.

The goal of this workshop is for you to walk away with a few more outfit ideas that are already in your closet, along with a clearer understanding of how to make your wardrobe work for your lifestyle.

By the end of the session you’ll walk away with:

• New outfit ideas using pieces you already own
• A simple framework for building outfits that feel intentional
• A clear approach to decluttering and editing your wardrobe so getting dressed feels easier
• An introduction to building your own capsule wardrobe for spring

This is an interactive personal styling workshop with clothing items brought in for demonstration, so bring a notebook and all your wardrobe questions.

Q. Will you be giving spring outfit ideas?

Yes! We’ll talk about how to dress for spring in Ottawa and go over specific styling ideas for different lifestyles.

Q. Will you be covering the essential spring clothing items for 2026?

Absolutely. Everyone’s wardrobe needs are a bit different, and I don’t think we all need the same trend pieces each season (looking at you, barrel jeans). Instead, we’ll talk about how to build your own capsule wardrobe so your clothes work seamlessly together and support your day-to-day life.

Q. Will you be going over the colours for Spring 2026?

I believe that you already know your colours, and that style is really about blending your personality with your appearance. We’ll talk about colours that feel aligned with the spring season and how to spot the colours that work for you.

Rebecca Rowe is an education-led personal stylist based in Ottawa who believes you don’t need to know your body type to feel confident and put together. Instead, she teaches practical styling tools like using anchor points to build an outfit (don’t worry, she’ll explain it in the workshop).
